Best Buddies

Back in High School I was in Best Buddies for 4 years and I loved every minute of it. Best Buddies is a program for special needs kids to be pear up with another kid outside of their small classroom. To me I think they should have best buddies in middle and elementary schools too because so many special needs kids can benefit this. When I went to my first Best Buddy meeting there was only one girl from that class who was there. I just fell in love with her. She was so cute and I wanted to be her buddy. Furtunatly so did everyone else but I was still able to be her buddy and ones a week I would go to that classroom to sign up to take her for lunch. She enjoy hanging out with me at lunch. I didn't know when I first met her what disability she have. I didn't know anything about Down Syndrome. I just looked at her and her personality. I treated her like how I wanted others to treat me. I got her into Drama club and that is where I met Chris who was also in her class. One day when we both came out of the school from Drama my mom saw her. When I came into the car my mom told me that Ann has Down Syndrome. I was like wow and that began my research on Down Syndrome. It was funny when we were in Drama club because we both wanted to be Juliet. But the thing is she had a hard time reading. So she became a town person and I was the 3rd servant. Chris who wanted to be Romeo, was the Prince. I was impress by how he could remember all his lines before anyone else. He was always the first person to be off book. I had a crush on Chris. Then he asked me to Prom and I said yes even though at the time I was a freshman. My mom met Chris and we went to Prom. When he drop me off back home my mom told me that he might have aspergers because he seemed a bit off. I began to notce some artistic trates in him and he hardly ever gave me good eye contact.
I learned so much about disabilities and it just fill my passion to teach special Ed myself.  In Biology I had this teacher name Mr. Clark and he had us to do some projects for class. One of the projects we had to do was to pick any genetic disorder so out of inspiration of Ann I choose Down Syndrome. I did an amazing power point with kids who have Down Syndrome and old people with Down Syndrome. I did a lot of research on my topic. I was surprised to learned that it happens if the mother is 35 or order and get pregnant and I was surprised that they have 21 chromosomes. One extra chromosomes then people without Down Syndrome. I felt sad when I learned that they get health problems. At the end of the presentation I said joined best buddies. Trying to encourage the other students to joined. Mr. Clark was impress and gave me an A.

Some kids with Autism would have a speech problem or can't talk at all but there are some kids who talk normal. Autistic kids like Chris has low intelligence in school and that was why he was in special Ed but Autistic kids like my other 2 boyfriends Said and Edgar they have very high intelligence. Said was in honor classes. Said is really good with math and science and Edgar is really good in math. Look at Albert Einsteins for example he had Asperger's and he was really smart in math and science but he was bad in his other subjects. Some Autistic kids doesn't like to be touch and some doesn't mind it. A lot of them has poor social skills. Chris didn't talk to people much exapt for me but he was great on stage. When I first met Said he wasn't socialable, only to me and his autistic friend John who is a different kind of autism. He would usually do his work. But after we got together and we started to go to Safe Homes he started to be more socialble and made new friends. He thanked me for helping him to be more socialble. Now I am with Edgar and I have brought him to safe homes too but he would sit by himself and put his head phones in his ears and watched videos on his phone. I am determine to get him to be more socioable but he is more of a challeneged then Said. Chris had a special skill in theater. Some kids with Autism who may not be good in school still might have some sought of special skill outside of school that we have to find.
